The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail trail passes through high quality dairy country, and offers sweeping views of the Great Dividing Range to the north. Visitors can connect to and travel by train at either end of the trail. The trail is perfect for weekend short breaks with most townships along its route offering accommodation, food and wine, visitor services and amenities. Bridges cross rivers and waterways, with short detours leading to wineries, galleries and museums along the trail.

Small towns along the trail include Glengarry, Toongabbie, Cowwarr, Dawson, Heyfield, Tinamba, Maffra, Powerscourt.

Officially commences at the intersection of Marshalls Road and Traralgon-Maffra Road (C105) approx 4 kms from the Traralgon train station and CBD.

The trail carpark is located at Burnetts Road, approx 1km along the trail towards Glengarry. At this location there is plenty of safe off road space to load and unload bikes, organise gear and there is also a trail map and information shelter.

Bike Repair Stations available at Glengarry (in front of Platform 3854 Cafe) and Heyfield.
