Known for her wicked and quick sense of humour, two-time TV Week Gold Logie winner and Australian entertainment icon Denise Drysdale has been entertaining audiences for over five decades. This dynamic personable performer is a legend of Australian show business who is rated as one of the best entertainers in Australia who has maintained enormous popularity in her career.
Originally from Victoria, Denise was employed as Melbourne’s first television go-go dancer at the age of just 17. Denise’s television career has been amazing starting as a young girl on Kommotion, The Go Show and guesting on every major television tonight show, such as In Melbourne tonight and The Don Lane Show. Denise has endeared herself to millions of Australians.
Her popularity led to the Australian Government inviting her to perform for troops in Vietnam in 1967. Denise is still actively involved with the Vietnam Veterans Association. In 1974 Denise became Ernie Sigley’s barrel girl on The Ernie Sigley Show, where she was affectionately named Ding Dong.
Whether it’s singing great songs, doing impersonations, particularly her famous ‘chook walk’ or cracking gags this lady has no peer as she totally entertains her audiences.
In 1975 and 1976 Denise won the TV Week Gold Logie Award for the Most Popular Female Personality on Australian television. She also won the TV Week Silver Logie Award for Most Popular Female Personality in both of those years. In 2018 Denise was included in a special collection of stamps by Australia Post honouring the legends of Australian TV. Other included in the special stamp collection were Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Ray Martin, Molly Meldrum and Daryl Sommers.
Denise currently co-hosts Network Ten’s morning program Studio 10 alongside Sarah Harris, Joe Hildebrand and Ita Buttrose, and records a new weekly podcast with Jessica Rowe called ‘One Fat Lady & One Thin Lady.’
Denise’s other television credits include The Circle, Spicks and Specks, Please Like Me, The Norman Gunston Show, Celebrity Squares, Young Talent Time, Countdown, Division Four, The Ernie Sigley Show, Homicide and Bellbird. As an actress, Denise has appeared in a number of movies including The Last of the Knucklemen, Snap Shot and Blowing Hot and Cold. Denise has also starred on stage in Salad Days, Grease, The Barry Crocker Show, Two Gentlemen of Verona and Hello Dolly.
