Latrobe Chorale presents Joseph Haydn’s Missa in Angustiis and John Rutter’s Sprig of Thyme
Music lovers will be thrilled by this dramatic evocation of the Latin Mass. Haydn wrote this one in 1798 at a time when he was facing great personal difficulties, the Missa in Augustiis is full of drama and has some wonderful passages of unusual harmonic arrangements. It is commonly known as the Nelson Mass.
The Latrobe Chorale will be accompanied by timpani, two trumpets and piano for this piece.
The concert will be conducted by Mary Mirtschin. The choir will also sing the choral arrangements of eleven English folk songs known as The Sprig of Thyme by the well known contemporary English composer, John Rutter.
