Still Selling: The Enduring Appeal of Georgette Heyer – Victorian Seniors Festival

September 2021 will mark one hundred years since the publication of The Black Moth, Georgette Heyer’s first novel. It has never been out of print. Though it is forty-five years since her death, Georgette Heyer remains a bestseller. In her lifetime she wrote fifty-five novels and created a genre. Today, the “Regency” novel is the most popular form of historical novel and around the world hundreds of successful Regency authors ackowledge their debt to the “Great Georgette”. Five generations of readers have come to know and love her novels but what is it about her books that keep people coming back for more? Heyer’s authorised biographer, Jennifer Kloester, will share her research and insights into Georgette Heyer’s vast success and explain why she still sells today.
